Boston, Mass. - The Boston College men's cross country team placed ninth at the 17th annual Mayor's Cup held at Franklin Park in Boston. The field included pro and semi-pro runners, including assistant coach John Mortimer, who placed sixth overall. The Eagles finished ninth with 238 points out of 14 competing teams. Dartmouth who placed seventh with 201 points and UMass-Darmouth (14th place and 385 points) were the only other college teams in the race.
Boston College was led by sophomore Patrick Viklund, who placed 35th overall with a time of 25:50 in the 8k event. Senior co-captain Stephen Walsh was 40th, crossing in 25:59, while freshman Michael Sainato came in 42nd place finished in 26:04. Sophmore Brendan Collins and freshman Andrew Mercurio rounded out the top five finishers for the Eagles, placed 54th and 67th respectively, with times of 26:19 and 27:03.
Boston College men's cross country will next compete on Saturday, October 28th at the ACC Championships in Charlottesville, Va.
