CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Sophomore Benn Ferriero registered two goals and two assists and senior Joe Rooney recorded one goal and three assists to lead top-ranked Boston College to a 5-1 non-conference victory over Bowling Green before 4,319 fans in Kelley Rink.
Ferriero and Rooney combined with sophomore linemate Brock Bradford (three assists) for 11 of BC's 14 points on the night. The performances for each marked a career high.
Boston College (2-1-0) built a two-goal lead in the first period. Senior captain Brian Boyle netted a power-play goal midway through the opening frame and Ferriero doubled the Eagles' margin with his first goal of the season at 14:47.
Bowling Green's Derek Whitmore countered with the Falcons' lone tally of the night with 5.4 seconds left to play in the first period.
The Eagles scored one second-period goal and added two goals in the final frame for the 5-1 final.
Rooney extended BC's lead back to two goals - at 3-1 - on his first of the season at 5:01 in the middle period.
Sophomore Nathan Gerbe added a power-play goal at 8:13 of the third period and Ferriero concluded the scoring at 15:44.
Boston College outshot the visiting Falcons, 43-26. Bowling Green sophomore goaltender Jimmy Spratt recorded 38 saves.
BC junior goalie Cory Schneider recorded 25 saves to earn his 39th collegiate victory.
Game Notes: Ferriero, who tallied two goals and two assists to surpass his previous single-game high of three points (set twice last season), tallied the fourth multiple-goal effort of his collegiate career ... Rooney, who registered one goal and three assists, equaled his career-high of four points. Previously, Rooney recorded four points - two shorthanded goals and two assists - in the team's 5-0 win over Boston University (March 25) in the NCAA Tournament's quarterfinal round victory in Worcester, Mass. ... Bradford, who recorded a career-high three assists, has tallied a team-high seven points - two goals and five assists - through the first three games of the 2006-07 season ... BC improved to its record to 10-3-0 in the all-time series against Bowling Green. Bowling Green is led by former BC assistant/associate head coach Scott Paluch, who played under York from 1984-88 and coached under York as a volunteer assistant coach (1992-94, BGSU) and as an assistant/associate head coach (1994-2002, BC) ... freshman defenseman Carl Sneep's assist on Gerbe's third-period goal - Gerbe's first goal of the 2006-07 season - marked his first collegiate point.
