Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The Eagles lost a tough game to No. 6 Mercyhurst College on Saturday night as the Lakers snapped a BC seven-game winning streak. The Eagles continue their stay atop the Hockey East standings though with a 12-2-1 conference record and an overall record of 13-8-4.
The Lakers scored first at 1:53 in the first period as junior Julia Colizza scored her 12th goal of the season off pass from Stefanie Bourbeau and Samantha Shirley. But the Eagles came right back six minutes later as sophomore Cristin Stuart scored her first goal of the season off a pass from freshman defense Brie Baskin who notched her second assist of the season to tie the game up at one a piece.
But the Lakers would continue their barrage of shots on BC's net as they scored three more unanswered goals before the end of the period. Sophomore Sherilyn Fraser tallied her second goal of the season at 11:13 and then Bourbeau scored her second goal of the game at 14:46. Finally the Lakers' fourth goal of the period came at 16:18 as freshman Robyn Law scored her fourth goal of the season to give the Lakers a three-goal lead.
After a scoreless second period, the Eagles struck first in the third period at 1:08 as sophomore Erin Blood scored her second goal of the game and of the season. Blood took the puck off of passes from classmate Sarah Feldman and freshman Meghan Fardelmann to bring the score within two.
But the Lakers would strike once more before the end of the game as senior Danielle Lansing scored her second goal of the season to make the final scored, 5-2.
Senior Alison Quandt finished the game with 26 saves while Mercyhurst goalie Courtney Drennen finished the night with 22 saves.
The Eagles return to Hockey East action next Saturday as they host No. 2 New Hampshire for the second time this season. The last time the two teams met, the Eagles beat the Wildcats for the first time in 35 meetings. The puck drops at 2 p.m.
