Men's Skiing Races at Plymouth State Carnival

WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. - The Boston College men's ski team finished second in the giant slalom event and took fourth place in the slalom competition of the Plymouth State Carnival on Saturday, Jan. 21 and Sunday, Jan. 22. The Eagles placed three skiers in the top nine of the giant slalom event on Sunday.
Juniors Greg Avallon and Thatcher Merrill finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the giant slalom competition. Avallon finished the giant slalom races with a total time of 1 minute 8.28 seconds. Merrill garnered a total time of 1:08.50, finishing 0.22 seconds behind Avallon. Freshman Andrew Simmons raced to a ninth-place finishing, posting a total time of 1:08.71.
Avallon and senior Andy Wallman raced to ninth-place and 10th-place finishes, respectively, in the slalom event. The top Eagle finishers were separated by 0.21 seconds.
"The men struggled a bit to finish as a team in the slalom, but ended up a respectable fourth," head coach Pete Endres said. "On Sunday in the giant slalom though, they skied very well and finished second. I was extremely pleased with the team's skiing this weekend."
Boston College finished with an overall team time of 346.61 seconds in the giant slalom competition, finishing 4.56 seconds behind top finisher Colby/Sawyer College. Plymouth State, University of Massachusetts and Babson rounded out the top five.
In the slalom event, the Eagles finished fourth and collected a total time of 555.83 seconds. Plymouth State took first place, finishing ahead of Colby/Sawyer and University of Massachusetts.
The men's ski team returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Brown Carnival in Wachusett, Mass.
