Women's Swimming Handles UMass

Amherst, Mass. - Elizabeth Byron contributed to three wins for Boston College as the women's swimming team defeated UMass 179-121 in Chestnut Hill.
The versatile Byron captured first in the 50 freestyle and the 100 butterfly, and swam the opening leg of the first place 200 medley team. Caroline Byron anchored the 200 medley quartet, and also earned wins as part of the 400 freestlye relay team, and individually in the 200 breaststroke, clocking in at 2:31.63.
The Eagles dominated the sprint events, with Heather Page winning the 100 backstroke, Holly Boucher capturing the 100 breaststroke, and Kelly Leahey, Elizabeth Snyder and Boucher finishing as the top three in the 100 freestyle. Leahey also took first in the 200 freestyle.
Carolyn Bowman, also a member of the 200 medley foursome, grabbed an individual win in the 200 breaststroke. Mari Wunschel took the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:13.62, and Tanya Suryoutomo won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:11.66.
Kim Garcia earned a distance win for the Eagles, taking the 1000 freestyle by 16 seconds.
The Eagles return to the pool Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Bosotn University.
