Women's Skiing Opens Season With Second-Place Finish

CRANMORE, N.H. - The Boston College women's ski team raced to a second-place finish in the giant slalom portion of the UConn Carnival on Saturday, Jan. 13. The Eagles placed three skiers in the top six in Cranmore, N.H.
Freshman Courtney Wilson raced to a fourth-place finish in both runs, posting times of 37.78 seconds in the first run and 37.64 seconds in the second. Juniors Courtney Culnane and Courtney Hollis finished fifth and sixth overall, respectively. Culnane earned a third-place finish in her first run, finishing in 37.52 seconds. Junior Kara Hoisington rounded out the top 10.
"Overall, I was very pleased with our opening race," head coach Peter Endres said. "The women raced very well and were very close to a win. Just about everyone finished the race without making any major mistakes on the course."
Boston College finished with a total time of 227.14 seconds, as Brown University captured first place in the day's event (226.88 seconds). The University of Massachusetts, Plymouth State and Colby/Sawyer College rounded out the top five.
The slalom event of the UConn Carnival, slated for Sunday, Jan. 14, was postponed due to inclement weather. The slalom competition has been rescheduled for Sunday, Feb. 5.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday, Jan. 21, in the Plymouth State Carnival at Waterville Valley, N.H.
