Brookline, Mass. - The women's soccer team tied the Northeastern Huskies, 0-0, after going into double overtime on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at Northeastern's Parsons Field. Junior Arianna Criscione collected her seventh shutout on the season. The Eagles are now 6-0-1 on the season, while the Huskies are 3-4-1.
Criscione played solid in net for the Eagles making crucial plays throughout the game. In the 59th minute of the match, Northeastern was awarded a free kick outside the 18-yard box. Criscione leaped over Husky freshman Caitlin Whelan and caught the ball to prevent any scoring opportunity. In the first overtime period, Criscione saved a point blank shot by Whelan.
Junior co-captain Jenny Maurer came close in the second half to scoring when her shot hit the post. Maurer carried the ball down the right side of the field, cut through the defense and shot it to the far left where it hit the post. The East Longmeadow, Mass. native also led the team in shots and shots on goal with six and three, respectively.
Senior co-captain Lindsey McArdle led a defense that only allowed two shots on goal the entire game. McArdle was solid in the backfield saving the ball off the goal line late in the second half. McArdle was joined on the back line by junior Mary Schneck and freshmen Kerri McNicholas and Caroline Walden.
Senior April Joy Millado saw her first action of the season, coming in to play at defense for the Eagles.
The Eagles enter into their conference schedule as the only team in Division I that has not given up a goal yet this season. They also come into the conference without a loss. On Sunday, Sept. 25 the Eagles will travel to Clemson, S.C. where they will take on the Clemson Tigers. Kick off is set for 2:00.
