Chestnut Hill, Mass. - The women's soccer team continues to ascend in the national rankings, now holding onto the no. 9 slot. Over the weekend the squad took a 2-0 win over Harvard to improve their record to 4-0-0.
The NSCAA also ranks the Eagles no. 1 in the Northeast region, while Soccer Buzz Magazine ranks them no. 11 in the nation. In Soccer America's weekly rankings the Eagles are also ranked no. 9.
Goals from Molly Dane and Caroline Walden propelled the Eagles past the Crimson, while junior goalkeeper Arianna Criscione came up with a crucial penalty kick save to preserve the shutout.
In the 40th minute of the first half the Crimson were awarded a penalty kick, while the score was still 1-0. Criscione made a diving save to her left to preserve the shutout and the lead. Walden scored the insurance goal in the 55th minute, from a Heather Ferron pass.
On Wednesday, Sept. 14th, the Eagles make their first road trip of the season as they take on Brown University in Providence, R.I. at 7:00.
The last time these two teams met was on October 6 of last year at the Newton Campus Soccer Field. The Eagles took a 1-0 win. Nicole Reyes scored the game-winner in the 38th minute to put the Eagles on top. Since 1991, the Eagles own a 6-2 record against the Bears.
This is the first season since 1991 that the Eagles have started off the season without allowing a goal in the first four games. Criscione has collected 10 saves and played in all 360:00 minutes for the Eagles.
