The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) has released its annual preseason poll, ranking BC women's soccer 16th in the nation. At the end of the 2004 season BC ranked 17th nationally and finished with a 17-5-1 overall record and 7-3-0 in the BIG EAST.
BC continues to garner conference and national accolades. Earlier in the month the Eagles were picked to finish fifth in the ACC, as they begin their first season in the conference. They were also dubbed 14th by Soccer Buzz Magazine last week in the publication's annual preseason poll.
BC returns 10 starters to this year's squad, including 2004 point leader Kia McNeill (22). Senior goalkeeper Kate Taylor returns after an impressive three years with the Eagles. Taylor has a 0.89 career goals-against-average and has accumulated 21 shutouts over three years. Also coming back is sophomore Laura Georges. Georges spent the summer playing for the French National Team in the prestigious European Women's Championship.
Other ACC teams ranking in the NSCAA top 25 include the University of North Carolina (2), University of Virginia (4), Duke University (12) and Wake Forest University (T-21). NSCAA rankings are released every Tuesday during the season.
BC opens its 2005 season against Boston University on Friday, Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. The game will be played at BC's Newton Campus Soccer Field.
