Julie Smith and Carolyn Cahill have been added to the Boston College field hockey coaching staff, head coach Ainslee Lamb announced.
"I am thrilled to have both Carolyn and Julie join the Eagle coaching staff for the fall," says Lamb. "Both will bring tremendous hockey expertise to the program through their coaching and playing experiences."
"Having both of them previously on my staff, I am confident in and excited for the incredible energy that they have for the sport" Lamb adds. "Both of them thrive on making players better."
Julie Smith, the 2001 Northeast Conference Player of the Year, will join Lamb's staff as the second assistant. She was a part of Lamb's coaching staff at Yale from 2002-04. Most recently, she served as an assistant field hockey coach at Springfield College, where she was responsible for assisting in all aspects of recruiting, coaching, and team management.
In addition to her collegiate coaching experience, Smith is active within the camp and U.S. Futures programs. She has served as a coach in both organizations since 2003. While a player, Smith earned NFHCA Division I Mideast Regional All-American honors as well as NFHCA Division I Academic All-American honors during the 2001 season.
Smith graduated from Quinnipiac University in 2002, with a bachelor's degree in communications and journalism. She is currently studying for a master's degree in sports management from Springfield College.
Carolyn Cahill, Bentley College's 2000 Female Athlete of the Year, will also join Lamb's staff for her first season. The volunteer assistant will primarily work with the goalkeepers. Most recently, she served as the head field hockey coach at Merrimack College (2002-04). Prior to that, she served two years as an assistant to Lamb at Yale (2000-02).
As a player, Cahill was a four-year starter and earned 1999 Northeast-10 Goalie of the Year honors. She was a three-time All-America selection who led her team to four NE-10 championships. In addition, the Bentley squad played in the 1999 NCAA Championship game.
Cahill graduated from Bentley in 2000, with a bachelor's degree in management. She is currently a real estate agent in her hometown of Milton, Massachusetts.
