
Women's Track Cruises To New England Championship

Senior Saki Sugano marked 12 feet, 9.50 inches in the pole vault, breaking her own school record while leading Boston College to the Outdoor New England Championship for the second consecutive season this weekend in Durham, N.H.
Sugano vaulted nearly 10 inches higher than the second-place finisher from Massachusetts. Megan Mara and Carolyn Rayburn finished third and fourth, respectively, in the event.
Sophomore Kasey Hill also broke her own school record, winning the heptathlon with 4,958 points. Senior Liz Hassan finished second in the event with 4,472 points. Classmate Jacqueline Tanzella finished third.
Senior Melissa Sherman ran away with the 1,500 meters, beating BU's Abbey Sadowski by more than two seconds. Sherman's mark of 4 minutes, 25.01 seconds is the second-fastest performance in school history. Junior Laurel Burdick came in fourth.
Sophomore Kathleen Smyth and freshman Mary Heitkamp finished first and second, respectively, in the 800 meters for Boston College. Smyth's mark of 2:10.79 was the third-fastest mark of the season for the Eagles.
Juniors Kristen Coon and Anne Hessberg finished first and second, respectively, in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Boston College scored 117 points en route to the New England title, 34 in front of second-place UMass. The Eagles also won the indoor title this winter.
