The women's soccer team played against the Bay Shore Select from the WPSL last Saturday afternoon. In the glorious sunshine on the Newton Campus Field, the game ended in a 2-2 tie. The Eagle have not been beaten this spring.
Although BC dominated the game with possession and scoring opportunities, Bay Shore was the first to capitalize. After a mix up in the BC midfield a through ball beat the defense and allowed the Bay Shore forward to breakaway and slip the ball past the on rushing Kate Taylor.
The Eagles did not take long to respond as freshman Nicole Reyes was quick to pressure the Bay Shore defenders into a mistake. Reyes picked off a weak pass and her first touch put her in on goal. With the keeper closing down the angle, Reyes drove the ball home to tie the game for the Eagles.
BC then took the lead with a highlight reel goal from Sophomore Mary Schneck. After receiving a give-and-go pass, outside back Schneck found herself penetrating the Bay Shore midfield. With the defenders backing off, Schneck struck the ball from 25 yards out and saw her shot nestle in the top corner of the net. The opposing goalkeeper did not have a chance to save the bid from the sophomore.
The second half was a similar story with possession and opportunities. The Bay Shore keeper was in fine form, keeping the Eagles at bay. Freshman duo Tara Luciani and Nicole Reyes had golden opportunities to extend the BC lead in breakaway situations, but neither was able to convert.
With 15 minutes left in the game, Bay Shore tied the game after a BC clearance fell in the midfield. Bay Shore was the first to respond to the errant clear, beating the BC midfield before finding a forward open in the box. With the defenders closing the forward down, she hit a shot which deflected off Kate Taylor before finding the back of the net.
BC takes on the Boston Renegades next Saturday, April 23rd at Bowditch Stadium in Framingham, kick off at 5:00 p.m.
