Three freshmen and one senior combined to break a 13-year-old school record in the 4x800-meter relay at the IC4A Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston on Sunday.
The Eagles ran the 3,200-meter race in 7 minutes, 30.43 seconds, shattering the old mark of 7:32.59, set in 1992. The performance was good enough for a fourth-place finish, earning five points for the Eagles. BC was 0.23 behind third-place Rutgers.
Freshman Patrick Mellea led off the relay with a 1:52.5 opening split. Classmate Jeremy Zagorski proceeded to run his 800-meter leg in 1:52.2 while senior co-captain Trevor Rozier-Byrd came in at 1:53.8. Freshman Frank DiVittorio saved the best for last as he anchored the relay with a time of 1:51.5.
Sophomore Daniel LaFave ran BC's best time of the season in the 800 meters with a mark of 1:53.62. LaFave finished 14th out of 28 runners. Classmate Mark Alizzi was 20th in the 3,000 meters.
