Boston College senior co-captains Jessalyn Deveny (Westford, Mass.) and Clare Droesch (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) were both honored on Friday at the Big East Women's Basketball Championship Presented by State Farm awards banquet. Deveny was named to the All-Big East first team for the second consecutive season while Droesch earned third-team accolades.
Deveny earned Big East Player of the Week honors three times in the season's first seven weeks before suffering a career-ending injury in a Feb. 2 loss to Notre Dame. She led the Eagles in scoring 11 times this season and finished the year averaging 17.1 points per game.
Droesch was named to an All-Big East team for the first time in her career, receiving third-team honors. She is a recent addition to the 1,000-point club, having reached the milestone in the loss to the Fighting Irish. Droesch has started all 27 games for the Eagles and is the team's leading rebounder with 6.3 boards per game. A prolific three-point shooter, she has hit a triple in 20 games this season, and has amassed 152 three-point field goals in her career.
Boston College, which won its first-ever Big East Tournament crown in 2004, earned the fourth seed in this season's championship. The Eagles have a bye in the first round and will face the victor of Saturday's game between No. 5 Villanova and No. 12 Providence on Sunday at 12 p.m. at the Hartford Civic Center.
