Ainslee Lamb, head women's field hockey coach at Yale University since 1999, has been named head coach of the Boston College field hockey team, Director of Athletics Gene DeFilippo announced. Lamb replaces Sherren Granese, who recently retired.
"We are pleased to welcome Ainslee to the Boston College Athletics family," DeFilippo said. "She brings a proven record of success on the field and in the classroom."
Lamb built the Yale program into one of the most respected in the Northeast, compiling a record of 41-47 over five seasons and leading the Bulldogs to ECAC championships in 2002 and 2003. Under her guidance, players earned All-Ivy recognition 19 times and regional All-America status 10 times. Her 2003 squad boasted 12 NFHCA Academic All-Americans and finished fourth in the country for the NFHCA Division I National Team Academic Award.
"What a great time to be involved with Boston College Athletics," Lamb said. "I am excited about leading BC into the ACC and competing with the best teams in the country. I feel my time at Yale has prepared me well to strike the balance between academics and athletics that is expected here at BC."
A 1994 graduate of the University of Toronto, Lamb was a three-year field hockey letterwinner who helped lead the team to a national championship in 1988 and earned All-Canadian honors three times. She then played one year at UMass, where she was a member of the 1994 final four team and was the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year. She received her Master's degree in sport management from UMass in 1996. She served as graduate assistant and assistant field hockey coach at UMass from 1994 through 1997 and assistant coach at Yale from 1997 until being named head coach in 1999.
