The BC men's distance medley relay finished in 10 minutes, 1.43 seconds and earned third place at this weekend's Big East Championships in Syracuse, N.Y.
The DMR team was less than 0.4 seconds out of first place, finishing just behind squads from Notre Dame and Villanova. Freshmen Patrick Mellea, Frank DiVittorio and Jeremy Zagorski, along with senior Geoff Atkins, gave BC its highest finish of the Championships, earning six points for the Eagles.
The three freshmen were joined by senior Trevor Rozier-Byrd in the 4x800-meter relay, earning a fourth-place finish for Boston College. The team's time of 7:38.63 was less than one second behind first-place Villanova.
Sophomore Louis Canelli marked 2.02 meters in the high jump, and finished third, earning five points for BC. Senior Ashley Jefferson collected three points with his triple jump of 13.56 meters.
BC's total of 19.5 points at the Big East Championships was good for a 10th-place finish. More notably, the Eagles scored just two points at last year's meet.
The Eagles return to action this weekend at the New England Championships in Boston, Mass.
