Avallon Leads Eagles To Second-Place Finish In Giant Slalom

Sophomore Greg Avallon had BC's best individual race of the season and became the first Eagle to win an event this winter at the Boston College Carnival on Sunday. Avallon finished just in front of two skiers from Massachusetts to win the giant slalom.
Avallon had finished fourth in the giant slalom at the Plymouth State Carnival two weeks earlier. His performance on Sunday helped lead the Eagles to a second-place finish in the standings, less than four points behind Plymouth State.
"Greg was great on Sunday," coach Kristian Knights said. "We'll need him to continue to ski like that for the rest of the season if we're going to continue to have this type of success."
Sophomore Thatcher Merrill also had a big day for Boston College, coming in fifth in the giant slalom, 0.6 seconds behind Avallon. Junior Andrew Wallman finished in 13th place for the Eagles.
In Saturday's slalom event, BC earned a sixth-place finish. Junior Peter Bohlin was 22nd overall and freshman Anthony Liberti finished 25th.
