
Men's Swimming Defeats Holy Cross, 178-81

Worcester, Mass. - The Boston College men's swimming and diving team defeated Holy Cross, 178-81 on Tuesday night at the Hart Pool. The Eagles won 12 events to help them improve to 9-3 on the season.
BC controlled the meet from the start. Brian Tichenor got the Eagles on the board first with a victory in the 100 backstroke at 56.73. Mark Green and Thomas Nececkas finished second and third, respectively, with times of 57.57 and 58.38.
The Eagles dominated both butterfly events. In the 100, Timothy Rausch finished first with a time of 55.69. Thomas Martz took first in the 200 with a time of 2:06.71. Kurt Zwald hit the wall second in the 200 at 2:08.25.
BC also swept the sprint freestyle races. In the 50, Jeffrey Benson won the heat with a time of 22.76. Brian Hill and Jonathan Salibra finished second and third, respectively, at 23.60 and 25.08. The Eagles also took the top-three finishes in the 100. Benson earned his second victory of the night with a time of 48.97, while Daniel Kollar took second at 49.96. Robert Keely came in third with a time of 51.87.
The Eagles swam strong in the 200 individual medley. Colin Scott won the heat with a time of 2:01.27. Michael Cartwright and Alex Zucco finished behind Scott with times of 2:04.42 and 2:05.52, respectively.
In diving, Christopher Wilson-Byrne continued to lead the Eagles. The sophomore won the 1-meter with 242.77 points and Kerry Fino finished in second place with 192.52 points.
BC (9-3) will compete in the Big East Championships in Uniondale, N.Y. on February 17-19.
