CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The Boston College women's basketball team defeated Massachusetts, 83-44, at Conte Forum Wednesday night. The victory extends the Eagles' win streak to 15 games over Massachusetts teams. The Eagles improve to 7-2 overall while the Minutewomen drop to 2-6.
Brooke Queenan (West Chester, Pa.) led Boston College with 20 points and eight rebounds, while Kathrin Ress (Salorno, Italy), Laura Lokitis (Norton, Mass.) and Brittanny Johnson (Chicago, Ill.) all scored in double digits. Ress contributed 16 points, while Lokitis and Johnson put down 10 and 14, respectively.
The Minutewomen got on the board first when Tamara Tatham hit her second free throw 29 seconds into the game. Ress put down the first of her 16 points just 21 seconds later when she collected a pass from Aja Parham (San Antonio, Tex.) and made the lay-up.
For the remainder of the half, the Eagles outscored the Minutewomen 36-2. Boston College went on a 23-0 run during that time span - with Queenan collecting 13 points - that put the Eagles on top 44-8. UMass' Katie Nelson hit a three-pointer with 57 seconds remaining in the half, to make the score 44-11 heading into halftime.
In the second half, the Eagles picked up right where they left off when Parham stole the ball and passed it off to Kindyll Dorsey (Manchester, N.H.) for the lay-up in the opening 30 seconds. The Eagles would lead by as many as 43 points when Johnson hit both of her free throws with 3:58 remaining in the game.
Boston College shot 48.5% shooting from the field, while holding the Minutewomen to 31%.
The Eagles added to their ACC-leading defensive rebound total, taking down 31. Their 50 total rebounds is a season-high, as is their 16 times steals. Sarah Marshall (Falmouth, Me.), the ACC leader in minutes played, added a season-high nine assists for the Eagles.
Boston College travels to Hamden, Conn. on Saturday to face the Quinnipiac Bobcats. Tip off is set for 1:00 p.m. and will be televised on NESN.
