Women's Soccer Drops 2-0 Decision in ACC Quarterfinals

Cary, N.C. - The No. 13 women's soccer team fell to the No. 12 Duke Blue Devils, 2-0, in the Atlantic Coast Conference quarterfinals on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at the SAS Soccer Complex. The Eagles now stand at 11-5-2 on the season while Duke is 13-4-1.
The Blue Devils opened up the scoring at 4:56 into the first half, when Darby Kroyer tallied the game-winning goal off a Kate Seibert assist. Seibert dished off a pass to Kroyer who was coming down the left side of the 18-yard box. Kroyer struck the ball into the opposite side of the net for her fifth goal of the season.
The Eagles responded by putting pressure on the Blue Devil defense, out-shooting them, 7-2, in the first half.
Duke capped off the scoring in the 73rd minute of the match, when Sarah McCabe collected a rebound in front of the Boston College net for her fifth of the season. Seibert was awarded her second assist of the night on the goal.
Junior goalkeeper Arianna Criscione had a game-high six saves, while sophomore Tara Luciani led the offense with four shots. Junior co-captain Jenny Maurer played a strong game, contributing on both the offensive and the defensive end, while freshman Caroline Walden was able to change gears moving from offense to defense midway through the first half. Sophomore Katie Coffey made her first start of the season, playing in the backfield.
Statistically, Duke held the slight edge in shots, 13-10, while both teams remained in a deadlock in corner kicks, 4-4.
In earlier ACC postseason action, North Carolina defeated Maryland, 3-1, while Florida State beat Clemson, 4-0, and Virginia downed Wake Forest, 2-1.
