Women's Basketball Advances To Semifinals Of Preseason WNIT

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's basketball team defeated Richmond, 62-51, in the second round of the Preseason WNIT on Sunday, November 13 at Silvio O. Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, Mass. With the victory the Eagles advanced to the semifinal round against the winner of the Connecticut vs. Indiana State game. Boston College improves to 2-0 on the young season.
The Richmond Spiders enjoyed their only lead of the game at the 19:45 mark when Christina Campion sunk a jumper. The Eagles responded 30 seconds later as Aja Parham (San Antonio, Texas) made a lay-up to tie the game at two.
Richmond tied the game up three times in the half, but Boston College pulled away at 10:21 and went up by as many as 15 points with 22 seconds remaining in the half. Richmond's Saona Chapman made a lay-up to cut the lead to 13 going into halftime with the score 29-16. Defensively, the Eagles held the Spiders to 28.0% shooting from the field.
In the second half, the Eagles held their lead, going up by as many as 16 points at the 10:45 mark, while allowing the Spiders to only come within 10 with 5:29 remaining in the game. The Eagles were able to score 18 total points off turnovers.
The Eagles led by as many as 15 in the first half and 16 in the second half. They collected 18 assists on 26 buckets and forced Richmond into 20 turnovers.
Brooke Queenan (West Chester, Pa.) had an all-around game recording a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while leading the team in both categories. It was her sixth career double-double.
Lisa Macchia (Levittown, N.Y.) chipped in with 14 points, 10 of them coming in a strong second half. Parham added 10 points and eight rebounds, seven of which were defensive. Queenan and Sarah Marshall (Falmouth, Maine) led the Eagles in assists, each with four.
Boston College's next Preseason WNIT game will be either Wednesday, November 16 at Indiana State or Thursday, November 17 at Connecticut.
