Raleigh, N.C. - The women's soccer team topped NC State, 1-0, behind freshman Caroline Walden's eighth minute tally on Sunday, Oct. 16. The goal was her third of the season. The Eagles improve to 10-3-1 and 4-3-0 in the ACC, while the Wolfpack fall to 6-9-0 and 2-5-0 in the ACC.
In the first half, the Eagles came out strong, putting six shots on frame, including Walden's goal at 7:58. Junior Heather Ferron picked it up at midfield and played it off to Walden, who was coming down the left sideline. Walden struck the ball on the bounce with her left foot, for the gamewinner. A minute prior to her goal, Walden hit the far left post.
Junior goalkeeper Arianna Criscione collected one save on the day and it came with just 42 seconds left in the match. NC State's Jessica O'Rourke nailed the ball from just inside the 18-yard box, but Criscione was there to make the save. It is her tenth shutout on the season.
The Eagles outshot the Wolfpack 13-6, while holding them to only one shot on goal. Walden and sophomore Nicole Reyes led the Eagles in shots, each with three.
The Eagles return to action on Thursday, Oct. 20, when they host No. 7 Virginia at the Newton Campus Field.
