CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The 16th-ranked Boston College field hockey team topped Vermont, 3-1, Sunday afternoon in non-conference play on the Newton campus. With the win, the Eagles improve to 10-4 overall (1-3 ACC). The Catamounts dropped their third straight and fell to 4-10 overall (1-2 America East).
The Eagles celebrated their Senior Day in style, scoring early and often for the win. Boston College put the ball into the net three times within the first 10 minutes of action en route to its victory.
Bob Dirks (Malden, Netherlands) found the back of the net for the game's first score at 31:31. Tara Fernandes (Mississauga, Ontario) notched the assist. Fernandes served up another nice cross pass, this time finding the stick of Crystal Frates (Woodstock, Vt.), who poked in the eventual game-winning goal at the 30:07 mark. Kristen Madden (Concord, N.H.) added an insurance goal at 26:25, scoring on a pass from Dirks.
Boston College hosts Harvard Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the final home game of the 2005 season. The Eagles will close out the season with three road games and then travel to College Park, Md. for the ACC Tournament Nov. 3-6.
