Newton, Mass. - The 16th-ranked Boston College field hockey team lost a 6-1 Atlantic Coast Conference game to No. 4 Duke Saturday afternoon in Newton. The Eagles fall to 6-3 on the season and 1-2 in the ACC. The Blue Devils are 8-2 (2-1 ACC).
Duke scored the first of its six goals just under 15 minutes into the game and never looked back, registering three goals in each half for its final six-goal tally.
The Blue Devils looked as if they were on the way to their third shutout of the season, but the Eagles avoided the shutout when Crystal Frates (Woodstock, Vt.) took a cross pass from Tara Fernandes (Mississauga, Ontario) and found the back of the net. Boston College's Jillian Savoy (Lexington, Mass.) collected 10 saves in net, playing all but 9:26 of the game.
The Eagles will travel to Holy Cross Sunday for a 1:00 p.m. non-conference game. They will return to ACC play next weekend when they travel to North Carolina for a Saturday afternoon match-up. Boston College will play its next home game October 12, when it hosts Brown.
