CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College head field hockey coach Sherren Granese is retiring after an 18-year career with the school, as announced recently by Director of Athletics Gene DeFilippo.
Granese joined the BC coaching staff in 1987, as a first-time head coach. During her tenure with the Eagles, they won three BIG EAST Championships (1994, 1997, 2003) and appeared in four NCAA Tournaments. In addition, they were BIG EAST regular season champions in 1998. Granese was named Northeast Region Coach of the Year in 1994 and BIG EAST Coach of the Year in 1998.
"It was a difficult decision to leave. I will miss Boston College and the student-athletes," says Granese. "It was a great 18 years. It was very nice to be a part of a program that grew as we did. It was special to watch."
This season, Boston College set a program-best with a 17-6 mark overall and a 3-2 record in the conference. It was the third straight season, and sixth overall, that the Eagles compiled at least 15 wins in a single season.
"We are very appreciative of Sherren Granese's 18 years of service to Boston College," DeFilippo says. "We wish her the best in her new endeavors."
