The Boston College women's tennis team fell to Minnesota on Sunday afternoon, losing the consolation round of the Minnesota Court Classic.
The 59th-ranked Eagles play one of the nation's most competitive schedules and faced two tough out-of-conference opponents in Oregon and Minnesota this weekend.
"We're struggling and hoping the next part of our schedule will get us back on the right track with some home matches," coach Nigel Bentley said. "The scale of our average opponents is much higher than it's ever been. We expected to perform better but we lost to a couple of top-notch programs."
Freshman Gia Nafarrete put on a show at No. 6 singles for the Eagles, defeating Minnesota's Jenna Tellefsen - 6-2, 6-0 - and winning BC's first match of the afternoon. Senior Amy Molden was also impressive in the No. 5 slot, beating Marina Bugaenco - 6-2, 6-4.
Molden had a strong day on the doubles court as well, teaming with classmate Morgan Landes in the No. 3 position to beat the Gophers' squad - 8-2.
Junior Szilvia Szegedi lost a tough match at No. 1 singles, falling 4-6, 7-5 (10-4) to Nischela Reddy.
The Eagles return to action on Sunday morning with their first home match against Ivy League foe Columbia.
