NOTE: Jared Dudley will appear on Fox Sports Net's IMAX program this evening. The show airs locally on Fox Sports New England at 5:00 p.m. EST.
Boston College sophomore Jared Dudley has been selected as the Sporting News (national) Player of the Week and as the Big East Co-Player of the Week for his efforts in the Eagles' victories over Villanova and St. John's.
Dudley shared this week's Big East honor with Syracuse forward Hakim Warrick. Dudley, who was the league's Player of the Week last week, is the first player this season to gain league player-of-the-week honors in consecutive weeks.
Dudley, a 6-foot-7-inch forward, averaged 27.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game in the Eagles' two wins. He also registered six assists and did not commit a turnover in a combined 72 minutes of action. He led the team in scoring and rebounding in both games.
In the 67-66 win over Villanova, Dudley scored 25 first-half points and finished with a career-high 36 points. The sophomore sank 4-of-5 free-throw attempts in the game's final 30 seconds to give BC the come-from-behind win. His 36 points mark the most points scored by a Big East player this season.
In the 79-73 win at St. John's, Dudley tallied 19 points and seven rebounds to pace the Eagles.
Dudley is the second BC player to earn the Sporting News honor this season. Junior Craig Smith claimed the national honor for the week of Dec. 5-11.
Boston College (16-0, 5-0 Big East) returns to action on Wednesday, January 29 at Providence. Game time is 7:30 p.m. in the Dunkin' Donuts Center.
The ninth-ranked Eagles are one of only three undefeated teams in the nation. A new national poll will be released later today.
