Scouting Report: Northeastern
September 22, 2004 | Women's Soccer
Sept. 22, 2004
This Thursday, the Eagles will end their three-game homestand against the Northeastern Huskies. The Huskies are currently 6-1-1 and are untested in their respective conference, America East. These cross-town rivals will continue their non-league campaign on the Newton Campus Field.
Northeastern's last game was played against Holy Cross. The Crusaders took the Huskies into overtime, but Northeastern pulled out the win, 3-2. The Huskies scored an own-goal while attempting to clear the ball from the zone to bring the match to overtime. In OT, junior midfielder Filippa Petruccelli netted a goal for the sudden death victory.
Looking at Northeastern's last two games, it is apparent that, although they registered a win and a tie, the team is not playing top-notch soccer. Harvard, who tied Northeastern 1-1, was 1-3-0 at the time they hosted the Huskies. Northeastern scored late in the first half to tie the game and seize the momentum, yet could not cap the victory with a tally for the remaining 65 minutes of play.
Against Holy Cross, a sloppy defensive play almost cost Northeastern the game. The Eagles picked the Crusaders apart when they came to the Newton Campus Field, winning 3-0 for their first victory of the season. If one were to play comparative scores against Holy Cross, then BC would clearly have the advantage- beating them handily while Northeastern struggled. However, that is why the games are played; to confirm or overturn such hypotheses.
BC will look to get on the board early, capitalizing on the youth of the Husky defense. Putting some early scores up will reinstate confidence to an offense that has been shut out two games in a row.
