The Boston College volleyball team dropped its first match of the Jesuit Joust tournament tonight to host Marquette University (5-2). The 3-0 defeat brings the Eagles to 6-4 on the season.
The two teams battled for the lead in the opening game. Setter Verena Rost helped control the Eagle attack. Rost recorded five kills on 13 attempts for an attacking percentage of .231 in the match. She also assisted on 37 points for BC. Despite Rost's efforts, the Eagles dropped their first game 33-31.
The Eagles looked to tie up the score in game two as Katie Andersen led the Eagle charge. The senior registered a team-high 12 kills and added eight digs for BC. Unfortunately it wasn't enough as Marquette squeezed by the Eagles 30-24.
In game three BC jumped out to a 25-21 lead, however Marquette's attack was too strong as the Golden Eagles took the final game 30-26. Shardai Davis played a large role in the Eagles defense throughout the night. The sophomore had four blocks in the match including one solo.
BC will look to rebound in its second match of the Jesuit Joust on Saturday, September 18 against the University of Loyola (Chicago) at 10:30 a.m.
