The women's tennis team elected captains for the 2004-05 squad this past week. Seniors Morgan Landes (Huron, Ohio) and Nida Waseem (Karachi, Pakistan) were chosen based on their exceptional performance and leadership skills.
"These are two outstanding leaders and two players who will really help us continue our success from last season," said head coach Nigel Bentley. "They both know what it takes to succeed and the hard work necessary to achieve national status."
Landes had an individual record of 17-9 for last year's team that finished third in the East region. She spent most of the season competing at No. 4 singles.
"Morgan is the heart and soul of the team," Bentley said. "She is our emotional backbone. She's everybody's best friend and was born to be a captain."
Waseem is ranked 114 by the ITA in the preseason individual rankings and had a 14-10 singles record last season while splitting time between the No. 2 and 3 slots.
"Nida is an extremely dedicated student of the game," Bentley said. "She's just a huge fan of the sport and leads by example."
The Eagles open up their season when they compete in the College of William and Mary Invitational from September 24-26.
