The Boston College Women's Soccer Team won its third straight game as they rolled the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers, 4-1. The victory lifts BC to a record of 3-1-0 and they remain untested in BIG EAST play. The loss drops UWM to 1-3-2, tallying its only win of the 2004 season against South Dakota State.
From start to finish, the Eagles systematically picked the Panther defense apart. The statistics show that BC out-shot UWM 15-10, yet it would seem that the Eagle offense was more relentless than the statistics show. From the start of the game to the final buzzer, BC clearly outdid UWM.
BC struck first within the first minutes of play. Sophomore midfielder Heather Ferron tallied her first goal of the season. Her unassisted try came on a well-worked play down the right side of the field. She laced a shot into the back of the net that improved her season points tally to three.
Freshman Kia McNeill scored what proved to be the game winner just after halftime in the 47th minute. A ball made it through the Panther defense, and with a defender on her arm, McNeill sent a shot far post and into the net. The story of Kia's young collegiate career has been hitting big shots under tough defensive pressure.
Twelve minutes later, McNeill added her second goal of the match. She took a great ball from junior Katie McGregor, credited with the assist, and netted it just inside the 18-yard box.
Freshman Nicole Reyes added a goal of her own in the 75th minute to cap the scoring. This is her first ever collegiate tally and it was done in style as she took a dish from Molly Dane and headed it into the net.
The Eagles controlled the pace of the game throughout the match.
The offense is still hot. Even in the season-opening loss to BU, the Eagles tallied near 20 shots on net. This last contest saw them post a season minimum 15 shots, yet BC netted a season high four goals.
Such a progression bodes well for the squad as it appears that the experience and youth are beginning to gel quickly.
Keeper Kate Taylor was only forced to make one save for the second consecutive game. Again, the combination of Lindsey McArdle and Laura Georges at the middle backs kept the Panthers' shots away from Taylor.
The next time the Eagles take the field they will square off against University of Wisconsin-Madison. BC will take on the Badgers in Madison at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
