Boston College was chosen to finish fourth in the 2004 Women's Soccer BIG EAST Preseason Coaches Poll. Notre Dame was projected in the number one slot while Connecticut and West Virginia both placed above the Eagles in the preseason rankings. Boston College goalkeeper Kate Taylor and forward Katie McGregor received BIG EAST preseason awards. Both were selected to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team and Taylor also secured Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year honors. Coming on the heels of a strong 2003 season in which Taylor earned Goalkeeper of the Year and boasted a 0.66 goals against average, she will serve as the backbone for the Boston College defense in her junior year. McGregor, also a junior, tallied 33 points on 14 goals and five assists last season. Those numbers placed her second and third in goals and points per game, respectively, in the conference. BIG EAST Conference action begins on Friday, September 17 when Boston College hosts Villanova, who shares fourth place with the Eagles in preseason rank, at 1:00 pm.
