Boston College men's soccer captain Guy Melamed (Nofit, Israel) is one of 25 players placed on a watch list for the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy, as announced Wednesday. The award is widely regarded as the country's most prestigious individual honor for men's collegiate soccer players.
Melamed was named 2004 Preseason BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year last week by a panel of the conference's coaches. The Israeli native was also named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST first-team. Melamed was named to the All-BIG EAST first-team the past two seasons.
The 25 players selected for the watch list are considered to be the top players entering the 2004 college season. A list of 15 semifinalists for the Hermann Trophy will be announced in November, and three finalists will be selected the following month. The winner will be announced at a dinner at the Missouri Athletic Club on January 8, 2005.
