Jessalyn Deveny, a senior guard from Westford, Massachusetts, was selected as the 2004 Boston Female Athlete of the Year by The Improper Bostonian magazine. Deveny earned the award for her stellar junior season in which she led the Eagles to a second-straight Sweet 16 appearance and the program's first BIG EAST Championship.
Deveny led the Eagles in scoring for the second straight season as Boston College finished with the highest win total in program history (27) and a #14 ranking in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches' poll. In a BIG EAST Tournament run that included wins over Syracuse, Miami, Connecticut and Rutgers, Deveny averaged 18 points and shot 60.5% from the field en route to being named the tournament' s 2004 Most Outstanding Performer.
After the 2002-03 season saw Deveny earn the BIG EAST's Most Improved Player and a spot on the conference second-team, her junior season brought even more success as Deveny was named All-BIG EAST first-team. She finished fifth in the league in scoring (16.3) and second in field goal percentage (.510).
The Improper Bostonian's "Boston's Best" issue reached stores July 21.
