VILLANOVA, Pa. - Boston College concluded the 2004 regular season with a 6-1 defeat of conference-opponent Villanova, Saturday.
Senior Justin Slattery (Hampton, N.H.) defeated Villanova's Aaron Kusza, 6-2, 6-1 to lead the Eagles with his eighth-straight victory at No. 1 singles. Chris McCoy (Pittsburgh, Pa.) overwhelmed John Toppel 6-3, 6-0, at No. 2, and teamed with freshman Soma Kesthely (Budapest, Hungary) to blank Angel Rubio and Sean Gallagher, 8-0, in doubles play. Kesthely slammed Rubio in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 4 spot to round out the singles and doubles winners on the day.
With the win, the Eagles now stand at 9-13 overall and improve to 3-2 in BIG EAST play.
Capturing singles wins in three sets for BC were Kiernan Laughlin (Phoenix, Ariz.), who defeated Ricardo Baraldi, 5-7, 6-4, 1-0, and Dennis Reardon (Cohasset, Mass.). Reardon took out Alex Villalobos, 2-6, 6-3, 1-0.
