Women's Track Earns Second Place At Wildcat Invitational

DURHAM, N.H. - Jennifer Donovan (Melville, N.Y.) bested the field in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Megan Mara (Avon, Conn.) captured the top spot in the pole vault competition, and Kathleen Smyth (Salt Lake City, Utah) won the 400-meter dash to lead the Boston College women's track team to a second-place performance, at the Wildcat Invitational hosted by UNH on Saturday at Mooradian Field.
The University of Connecticut won the meet on the women's side with 158 overall points. Boston College finished second with 152 while host UNH rounded out the top three with 144 points.
The Eagles' 4x400 meter relay team also finished first with a time of 3:54.41, to round out the first-place point scorers for BC.
Melissa Sherman (Dennis, Mass.) took second in the 1,500-meter event clocking 4:41.32, while Anne Hessberg (Slingerlands, N.Y.) earned top-five performances in the 800 and 1,500-meter runs. She finished second in the 800 at 2:20.62, while her time of 4:49.20 was good enough for third in the 1,500-meter competition.
Three Eagles placed in the top five in the 5,000-meter run. Freshman Jessica Flinn (Sandown, N.H.) crossed the line in 17:44.80 for a second-place finish, while Laura Smith (Holden, Mass.) and Alexis Lake (Breesport, N.Y.) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
Freshman Kasey Hill (Montgomery Centre, Vt.) was the top BC performer in the 100-meter hurdles and long jump events. She grabbed second in the 100-meter hurdles clocking 14.92, while she finished third in long jump competition with her mark of 17'05.25".
Sophomore Jessica Fazekas (Closter, N.J.) hit new personal outdoor bests in the hammer throw (133'10.00") and discus (133'00.00") events. She currently ranks third all-time at BC in the discus and fourth all-time in the hammer throw.
Sophomore Chelsea Halbmaier (Windham, N.H.) cleared 5'1" and placed third in the high jump while senior Allison Castaldi (Marblehead, Mass.) earned second in the triple jump with her mark of 35'10" to round out the top competitors for BC on the women's side.
Boston College will participate in two meets this weekend. The Eagles will send split squads to the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., Friday, April 16 through Saturday, April 17, and to the Northeastern University Invitational on Saturday in Boston.
