Swimming and Diving Places Seventh at ECAC's

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College men's swimming and diving team was seventh at the ECAC Championships,its highest finish ever, held Feb. 26-29 in Pittsburgh, Pa.
All five Eagle relays placed in the top eight, and Tim Tully (Severna Park, Md.) and Andy Naumann's (Tucson, Ariz.) effort in the 400-yard individual medley creeped BC into the top five of team scores on day two.
The men's 400-yard freestyle relay contingent of freshman Andy Faughnan (Aberdeen, N.J.), senior Andy Naumann , junior Dave Herman (San Anselmo, Calif.) and freshman Matt Northrup (Fayetteville, N.Y.) established a school record of 3:07.32.
The unit of Faughnan, Tim Tully, Herman and Northrup finished fifth in the 200-yard free relay race with a time of 1:25.75.
Andy Naumann, Brandon Twichell (Fayetteville, N.Y.), Tim Tully, and Northrup teamed up for sixth in the 400-yard medley relay at 3:29.71, bettering their mark of 3:32.42 set in the preliminaries. In the 200 medley relay, the same quartet clocked 1:35.79 for seventh after Naumann, Twichell, Jonathan Salibra (Mills, Ohio) and Northrup produced a 1:36.50 effort in the morning heats.
The 800-yard free relay group of Herman, Naumann, Faughnan and Northrup combined for sixth, clocking 6:58.73, just missing the school record (6:58.05).
Andy Naumann was sixth in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:55.52, after swimming 1:54.40 in the preliminaries, the school's second best time. The senior finished fifth in the 400-yard IM, quickening his mark of 4:08.12 in the morning swim, with a 4:07.98 effort in the finals. Naumann placed 22nd in the 200 backstroke, clocking 1:58.37.
Tim Tully received silver in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:04.46, improving his previous swim of 4:08.85, which was the sixth-fastest time in the morning heats. He placed third in the 200 backstroke, swimming 1:52.71 after 1:53.65 in the preliminary heat. He landed 17th overall in the 200 IM at 1:56.71.
Matt Northrup swam 21.37 in the preliminary 50 free and clocked 21.62 in the finals for 11th overall in addition to ninth place in the 100 free with a 46.88 mark, bettering his morning effort of 47.40.
Andy Faughnan finished 16th in the 50-yard free with a time of 21.89, after posting a 21.55 in the preliminaries. Faughnan was 13th in the 200-yard free, clocking 1:44.06 in the finals, improving his morning swim (1:44.58) by 0.52. Faughnan placed 10th in the 100 free at 47.07 after a 47.44 clocking in the preliminaries.
David Herman was 13th in the 1650 free (16:33.00), a personal best clocking as well as 18th in the 500-yard freestyle (4:45.84) and 19th in the 200 free (1:44.68).
Brandon Twichell swam 2:00.62 in the 200-yard IM for 34th overall and was 16th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 59.48, following his morning effort of 58.97. In the 200 breaststroke, Twichell produced a 2:08.46 time in the preliminaries and finals time of 2:08.76 for eighth overall.
Junior Brad O'Brien (Pittsfield, Mass.) was 37th in the 200-yard IM at 2:02.24 and 19th in the 100 backstroke, swimming 55.91 for 19th in addition to a 2:03.47 effort in the 200 back for 36th.
Jonathan Salibra touched the wall in 53.07 in the 100-yard fly for 22nd overall and was 31st in the 200-yard version of the fly (1:59.64).
Michael Cartwright (Woodbridge, Va.) swam 55.08 in the 100-yard butterfly, landing him 45th while his time of 56.00 in the 100 back was good enough for 21st. He swam 1:58.35 in the 200 backstroke for 21st.
Michael Moore (Houston, Texas) swam 1:00.98 in the 100 breaststroke for 19th and 2:15.64 in the 200 race of the same event.
Andrew Fromm (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) was 25th with a personal best time of 1:01.69 in the 100 breaststroke and 27th in the 200 breaststroke (2:16.37).
Jack Naylor swam 1:02.39 in the 100 breaststroke for 30th and 2:14.83 in the 200 breaststroke for 22nd overall.
John Rybicki finished 29th in the 200 breaststroke, clocking 2:17.88 and clocked 1:02.91 in the 100 breaststroke swim-off race.
Freshman Christopher Wilson-Byrne tallied 349.35 points on the three-meter board for seventh and posted 234.45 points in the one-meter competition, landing him fifth.
