Glenn Allen, Va. - Five different Boston College field hockey players earned a spot on the 2003 NFHCA Division I Academic All-America squad as announced recently by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). For three of the five players, it was the third such honor. Two players were newly-named to the squad. In addition, the Boston College team was one of 37 teams to be nationally recognized for excellence both on the field and in the classroom.
Representing the Eagles are Virginia Drozd (Richmond, Va.), Kim French (Shrewsbury, Mass.), Bronwen Kelly (Mississauga, Ontario), Lauren Schultz (New Milford, Conn.), and Sara York (Watertown, Mass.).
French, Drozd, and York were all named to the All-BIG EAST first team as the Eagles won the 2003 BIG EAST Championship. The team's leading scorer, York collected 48 points on 24 goals. French followed with 14 goals and two assists while Drozd added six goals and nine assists.
The BIG EAST Champion Eagles finished the season at 15-7 overall and 4-1 in the BIG EAST. They were eliminated from the NCAA Tournament by eventual national champion Wake Forest.
