BOSTON - The newly-top-ranked Eagles won the 52nd annual Beanpot with a 2-1 overtime win over Boston University before 17,565 at Boston's FleetCenter. Ryan Murphy potted the game-winner at 6:07 of the overtime period to seal BC's 13th Beanpot title.
The Eagles fell behind early when Kenny Roche, with the help of a screen in front of the BC net, beat Matti Kaltiainen on his glove side to put the Terriers up, 1-0 at 3:30 of the first period. Despite outshooting BU 18-5 in the first, BC went into the first intermission facing a one-goal deficit.
The second period again featured several scoring chances for Boston College, as the Eagles outshot the Terriers by a 15-5 margin in the second frame. Still, BC was unable to convert and the Eagles remained down by one heading into the third.

The Eagles came out attacking again in the third period and looked to have knotted the score at 6:06 of the third. J.D Forrest fired a shot from the slot that found its way past BU netminder Sean Fields, but the goal was disallowed after replays showed a BC player in the crease. The Eagles finally got the equalizer at 16:30. In traffic in front of the net, Ned Havern and Murphy had shots turned away by Fields, but senior Ty Hennes collected Murphy's rebound and beat Fields to tie the game at 1-1. The tie score held through the end of regulation and the game headed to overtime. The game remained deadlocked until the 6:07 mark when Murphy corralled the puck in front of the BU net and beat Fields on the far post, giving the Eagles the 2-1 victory and Beanpot championship.
Boston College (21-3-4) returns to action this weekend with a home-and-home series with Massachusetts. The Minutemen trail the Eagles by just one point in the Hockey East standings.
