CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Sophomore Aja Parham (San Antonio, Texas) scored a career-high 16 points, senior Amber Jacobs (Clarks Summit, Pa.) added 14 points and seven assists, and sophomore Brooke Queenan (West Chester, Pa.) shot 6-for-6 from the field as Boston College beat BIG EAST opponent Pittsburgh, 79-44 in front of 1,988 fans at Conte Forum Thursday night.
After allowing Pittsburgh to score the game's first two points, Parham scored six-straight points and Boston College shot 8-for-8 from the field to open up a 19-4 lead at the 14 minute mark of the first half of play.
The Eagles (15-5, 5-4) continued to build their lead throughout the first half. Boston College shot well, tallying 54.5 percent from the floor and went into the break with a comfortable 39-22 lead.
The Eagles came out running in the second half and went on a 10-2 run to build the lead to 25 with just under 14 minutes left to play. That lead would expand to as much as 34 when Parham stole the ball from Pittsburgh's Jennifer Brown and drove the length of the court for an uncontested lay up at the 3:47 mark. Junior Clare Droesch (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) hit a baseline runner as the buzzer sounded to seal the victory for Boston College.
Kathrin Ress (Salorno, Italy) made her first career start at center for Boston College. She tallied six points on 3-for-4 shooting and handed out a career-high four assists on the night.
Latoya Kincaid and Katie Histed lead Pittsburgh's scorers with 12 points apiece. The Panthers fall to 6-13 overall and 2-7 in BIG EAST action.
Boston College, who leads the BIG EAST in field goal percentage, shot a hot 60 percent from the floor in the second half and 57.1 percent for the game. Pittsburgh shot 37.5 percent from the floor on the night.
The Eagles dished out 25 assists marking the seventh time Boston College broke the 20-assist mark and the third time the Eagles dished out 25 or more assist in a game this season. Boston College also scored 36 points in the paint to the Panthers 20 and out rebounded Pittsburgh 36-25.
Boston College will next host Rutgers Sunday, Feb. 8, at 2:00 p.m. The game will be televised live on Fox Sports New England.
