SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Boston College women's basketball team outlasted Syracuse, 59-52, Saturday afternoon at Manley Field House in Syracuse, New York. The Eagles handed the Orangewomen their 11th straight loss. Collecting their 20th win of the season, the Eagles have won six of their last seven. With the win, BC improved to 20-6 overall and 10-5 in the BIG EAST.
Syracuse point guard Julie McBride led all scorers with 22 points in her final home game at Syracuse University. The Orangewomen are 6-19 overall and 3-12 in the BIG EAST.
Jessalyn Deveny (Westford, Mass.) led Boston College with 17 points and eight rebounds. Lisa Macchia (Levittown, N.Y.) scored 10 points off the bench. Clare Droesch (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) scored eight points and handed out a team-best five assists.
In the first half, the Orangewomen went on a 10-2 run to bring themselves within two with 3:11 left. The Eagles held a 25-19 lead at the half. In the second half, after a McBride three-point field goal tied the game at 28 with 15:40 left to play, Boston College used a 15-7 run during the next seven minutes to take an eight point lead, 43-35, with 8:19 left in the game. Syracuse got no closer than 49-46 after that. The Eagles connected on 11-of-12 free throws in the final three and one half minutes to seal the victory.
Chineze Nwagbo and Sarah Wegrzynowicz both added 10 points apiece for Syracuse.
Boston College will close out the regular season with a home game against Georgetown Tuesday night at 7 p.m. The game marks Senior Night for Amber Jacobs and Maureen Leahy.
