The NCAA made its selections for the 2004 women's soccer championship tournament Monday afternoon. Boston College (14-6-0, 8-4-0) got an at-large bid and the Eagles will square off against Florida State (12-5-2, 5-3-1) this Friday in Gainesville, Fla.
BC has never played Florida State in a women's soccer match. The Seminoles' first year of varsity soccer was 1995. This will be the inaugural match for both teams who will most likely see much of each other in the coming seasons. BC's reallocation to the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) next fall will facilitate more meetings between the two squads.
Also included in BC's regional bracket is No. 10 Florida and the University of Central Florida.
The BIG EAST conference is well represented in the national tournament. Notre Dame, UConn, West Virginia and Villanova received bids as well. If BC and Villanova advance to the third round, there is a chance that BC will play Villanova in the "Sweet 16."
