BIG EAST Field Hockey Standouts Honored

Syracuse, N.Y. - Six Boston College players were honored at the BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship Thursday night. The awards were announced and presented at the annual pre-championship banquet. The BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship is set for Nov. 5 and 7 at Syracuse University's J.S. Coyne Field in Syracuse, N.Y.
Boston College was well represented on the All-BIG EAST first and second teams. Senior Kerri Doherty (Lynnfield, Mass.) and juniors Sabrina Lazzari (Weston, Mass.), Kristen Madden (Concord, N.H.), and Bronwen Kelly (Mississauga, Ontario) were first team selections. Lazzari, Doherty, and Madden were unanimous choices. Juniors Sara York (Watertown, Mass.) and Jillian Savoy (Lexington, Mass.) were all second team selections. Boston College's six selections were second only to Connecticut's seven.
Connecticut also won three of the four major awards. Husky Head Coach Nancy Stevens, back Abby Ostruzka, and forward Lauren Henderson were named Coach, Defender, and Player of the Year, respectively. Syracuse goalkeeper Betsy Wagner was the conference's Goalkeeper of the Year.
