With a solid performance in Saturday's Foot of the Charles regatta, the Boston College crew team heads into the offseason with a positive outlook for the spring.
"We definitely had a strong showing," said sophomore Chrissie Monaghan, who rowed with the first varsity four. "We can be extremely fast. We didn't go as fast as we could have, but it adds fuel to the fire going into the spring racing season."
In the varsity four event, BC finished fifth out of 21 boats. In its first race of the season, the first novice eight came in ninth out of 16. The varsity eight finished fourth out of 12 in its race.
Most impressive about the performances, however, is the fact that the Eagles seemed to thrive on the adverse weather conditions.
"It was extremely cold," Monaghan said. "It was there but it wasn't a deterrent. We were totally in to the conditions."
The snowy morning caused other crews to pull out of the regatta.
Head coach Steve Fiske was also pleased with his team's display on the Charles.
"Our overall speed is improving," Fiske said. "We're right there with the top programs in the Northeast. We're pretty charged up going into the winter."
