Volleyball Defeats Georgetown In First BIG EAST Match

The Boston College volleyball team defeated Georgetown (11-7) today in its first BIG EAST match of the season. The Eagles fought through five games to beat the Hoyas 15-13 in the final game of the match. BC has won six straight games and is 13-7 on the season.
In game one the Eagles came out on fire. The team attacked the ball very well for a .294 attacking percentage. Alison Shepp led the charge with four of 13 kills coming in the first game. Morgan Woodcock stepped up for the Eagles on defense. The sophomore registered a match-high six block solos, including two in game one. It took BC only 25 minutes to top the Hoyas 30-21.
The Eagles kept their pace going into game two as the beat the Hoyas 30-28. BC jumped out to an early 12-8 lead off of a Woodcock kill. Woodcock was equally impressive on offense with nine kills on the day for an attacking percentage of .364. Later in the game the Hoyas tied the score up at 27, but the Eagles would never trail. Kristin Kenney took over with her serve and Katie Andersen finished off the game with a kill from Verena Rost. BC took game two 20-28. Kenney put in a solid performance on defense for the Eagles with 15 digs.
In games three and four the two teams battled back and forth. Trailing 21-16 in game three the Eagles went on a run to tie the game at 25. Rost led the charge and controlled the Eagle's attack with 49 assists in the match. The Hoyas would not go away and won game three 30-27. Game four proved to be very similar for the Eagles. BC never led in game four, but continued to press the Hoyas defensively. Allison Anderson was rock solid at libero for the Eagles. The sophomore recorded a career-high 46 digs in the match. BC tied the match at 29 off a Shepp kill, but it was not enough as the Hoyas snuck by the Eagles 31-29.
In the final game, the Hoyas jumped out to 6-3 lead. The Eagles responded and tied the game up at 10. The Eagles offense took over from there as Katie Andersen earned one of her 12 kills on the day. Up 14-13, Rost set up Lia Krautmanis as she slammed down one of her 13 kills for the win. Krautmanis had a remarkable day with only two errors on 29 attempts for an attacking percentage of .364.
BC (13-7) will look to continue its winning ways tomorrow as they host BIG EAST opponent Villanova (4-10) at 1 p.m.
