The Boston College men's golf team collectively shot a plus-34 at the Royal New Kent Gold Club to place fourth overall at the Joe Agee Invitational. Another standout performance by Kyle Kelly boosted the Eagles on the leaderboard.
The course in New Kent, Virginia boasted a 74.9 rating on a par 72 course. Even Coach Trevor Drum attested that the course is the most difficult he has seen used for collegiate play.
Over the three rounds, Kelly shot a 70, 73, 73 on the three rounds. His scored totaled even par, only to be topped by three golfers in the tournament. With a 74.9 rating, a scratch golfer should consistently shoot a 75 on the course. Kelly's first-round 70 was the third-best round of the entire tournament.
After Kelly, Bob Reed scored the next highest on the squad. Reed shot rounds of 73, 74 and 78 to total at plus-13 229. He tied for 32nd in the tournament.
Although out of contention, the three other Eagles in the competition posted impressive single-round scores. Jim Roney and Tim Holden both shot a second-round 73 and Alex Snickenberger shot an even 72 on his first round.
The men's golf team will play their next tournament on October 23-24 at the New England Championships held in New Seabury, MA.
