The BIG EAST released their weekly women's soccer honors and, for the first time this season, Boston College was featured. Sophomore midfielder Jenny Maurer took home Defensive Player of the Week and freshman Tara Luciani took Rookie of the Week.
The awards come as a result of the five-game win streak that the Eagles are currently nursing. The streak also includes a four-game in-conference win streak.
From her center-midfield position, Maurer anchored the Boston College defense that allowed only one goal in three conference games last week. The Eagles posted league wins over Connecticut (2-1 2OT, Sept. 29), Seton Hall (1-0, Oct. 1) and Rutgers (2-0, Oct. 3) allowing only 21 shots in the three matches. Maurer also tallied two points, providing the game-winning assist in both the Connecticut and Rutgers games.
Luciani registered six points in her first week of collegiate action, netting the game-winning goal in Boston College's 2-1 double-overtime victory against Connecticut on Sept. 29. She then assisted on the game-winning goal in the Eagles' 1-0 shutout of Seton Hall on Oct. 1. In the third game of the week, she recorded another game-winning goal and an assist in BC's 3-0 win over Rutgers on Oct. 3.
The Eagles will put their streak on the line Wednesday night against Brown. The Bears carry a 4-4 record and will square off against BC at 4 p.m. on the Newton Campus Field.
