Boston College continued its hot play on Saturday afternoon, as the Eagles controlled the entire game and defeated BIG EAST foe Rutgers, 3-0, in Piscataway.
Junior goalkeeper Kate Taylor registered her second consecutive shutout, and fifth of the season. Taylor made three saves and erased any possibility for Rutgers (6-6-0, 1-3-0) to get on the board early.
The Eagles (8-4-0, 4-2-0) wasted no time with their offensive attack, as freshman Tara Luciani notched her second goal in three games played less than ten minutes into the contest. Luciani took advantage of a corner kick deflection from freshman Katie Gallivan and then Jenny Maurer to put BC out in front for good.
After a back-and-forth struggle for the remainder of the opening half, senior Laina Ceddia scored her fifth goal of the season on a feed from freshman Tara Luciani in the 59th minute. The Eagle defense caused a breakaway opportunity in the center of the field that led to the score.
Gallivan scored an insurance goal for BC with just under 20 minutes remaining after the ball was deflected off the Rutgers sophomore goalkeeper Robyn Jones. It was the first goal of Gallivan's career.
After four consecutive BIG EAST road wins, the Eagles return home to put their win streak on the line on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. at the Newton Campus Soccer Field as they take on Ivy League member Brown.
