Women's Swimming Tops Colgate And Binghamton

The Boston College women's swimming and diving team downed Colgate University 155-141 on Saturday in Hamilton, N.Y. to earn its first win of the season.
BC took a first place finish in 11 of the 16 events on the day.
Kim Garcia and Leigh Going dominated the long distance events for the Eagles. The duo finished first and second respectively in both the 500 and 1000 freestyle.
Tanya Suryoutomo had an impressive meet with a first place finish in the 100 backstroke in a time of 101:62. The freshman also finished second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 54:83. Classmate, Elizabeth Snyder hit the wall first in the 100 freestyle in a time of 54:61.
The Eagles controlled the 100 and 200 breaststroke events. Julien Nikoll won the 200 in a time of 2:29:29 and finished second in the 100 with a time of 108:84.
BC owned the butterfly, placing first through third in both the 100 and 200 butterfly events. Liz Byron won the 100 in a time of 57:95 and Torey Thelin and Katie Barry finished just behind her with times of 59:65 and 1:02.57 respectively. In the 200, Carolyn Bowman captured the win in 2:12.25, while Barry and Katie Martin finished second and third respectively.
In the 50 free, Liz Byron cruised to a first place finish in a time of 24:40. The Eagles also dominated the 400 individual medley. Mari Wunschel won the heat coming in at 4:43:94. Martin and Barry rounded out the top three with times of 4:52.70 and 4:55.54 respectively.
The BC relays also fared well winning both the 200 medley and 200 free relay. Suryoutomo, Bowman, Thelin, and Byron stole the 200 medley in a time of 1:51.81. The same squad, with the addition of Snyder for Thelin, captured the 200 free relay with a 1:38.72 finish.
The Eagles traveled to Vestal, N.Y. to face Binghamton on Sunday. BC won 15 of the 16 events and crushed the Bearcats 228-66.
BC opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay. The team of Suryoutomo, Bowman, Thelin, and Byron captured its second win as many tries with a time of 153:04.
In the 200 freestyle, all three Eagles finished in the top-three. Holly Boucher took the heat with a time of 2:00.45 and Allison Rust and Wunschel finished just behind her with times of 2:02.12 and 2:02.52 respectively.
BC's diving squad also put in a solid performance. Maeve Brennan earned 211.65 points to win the one meter dive. Jennifer Rhines and Erica Sorenson were awarded 208.93 and 188.70 points respectively to finish out the second and third spots. Brennan also won the three meter dive with 203.03 points.
Emily Fong closed of the individual events with a victory in the 200 individual medley. The freshman won in a time of 2:19.59 and Erin Fransen finished second at 2:21.17.
BC (2-0) will travel down the road to Waltham to match up against Brandeis University at 5 p.m.
