Men's Swimming Opens Season Against Colgate And Binghamton

The Boston College men's swimming and diving team opened its season this weekend against Colgate University and Binghamton University. The Eagles traveled to Hamilton, N.Y. on Saturday and topped the Raiders 188-112. On Sunday, BC headed to Vestal, N.Y. and fell to Binghamton 173-121.
In Saturday's match up against Colgate, the Eagles won nine events to take the meet from the Raiders.
The Eagles opened up the meet on the right foot by winning the 200 medley relay. The team of Tim Tully, Brandon Twichell, Thomas Martz, and Matt Northrup took the race in a time of 1:37.87.
David Herman dominated the distance events by winning the 500 and 1000 freestyle. Herman finished with a time of 10:16.02 to win the heat in the 1000. Billy Schwitter grabbed a third place finish at 10:21.05. Herman also won the 500 with a 4:56.12 time.
BC controlled both breaststroke events. Brandon Twichell won both the 100 (1:00.28) and 200 (2:11.42) for the Eagles. Jack Naylor finished third in both events with times of 1:03.32 and 2:17.46.
Tully also put in an impressive performance for the Eagles. The senior won the 200 butterfly with a 1:58.55 finish and hit the wall second in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:58.66.
In the 100 butterfly, Martz won the heat in a time of 52:57. The sophomore also contributed to the 200 free relay team. He teamed up with Andrew Faughnan, Herman, and Northrup to take the relay in a time of 1:28.33.
On Sunday, the Eagles squared off against Binghamton. BC came up too short, falling 173-121. Christopher Wilson-Byrne led the Eagles by capturing both the one and three meter diving events. The sophomore earned 210.75 and 214.88 points respectively for the win.
Michael Cartwright swam a strong race in the 1000 freestyle. The junior won the race with a 10:17.63 finish. Herman completed the distance races with a second place finish in the 500 freestyle.
Tully had another solid meet for the Eagles. The senior grabbed second in the 200 individual medley and 200 backstroke with times of 2:02.94 and 2:00.27 respectively.
In the 50 and 100 free, Northrup came in second at 22:23 and 48:68 respectively.
BC (1-1) will look to capture its second win of the season on Wednesday, October 20 at Brandeis University at 5 p.m.
